Offers an in-depth program of the basic medical sciences. Presents the range of problems encountered by doctors & the range of solutions that have been developed for their recognition,
investigation, prevention & treatment. Covers the principles of disease, therapy, ethical & legal issues relevant to the practice of medicine.
Presents the opportunity to record a history, perform a physical examination and interpret the findings. Teaches the students to act independently correlating the clinical relevance to the basic sciences. Columbus Central University School of Medicine is an International Center for medical education and research. Located in the tropical, Caribbean country of Belize. The primary mission of CCU is to educate caring and skilled physicians who are well prepared to enter graduate and specialty training programs in biomedical and clinical Sciences to be well-prepared to advance the frontiers of research, clinical practice, and education within the United States and the Caribbean.
CCU offers the Basic Science and Clinical Science Curriculum, which are designed to prepare students for licensure and practice within the U.S., India and the Caribbean. The Doctor of Medicine Program
Basic Sciences (Semesters MD1 -MOS} MD1 -MD4: Foundations of Medicine is conducted within our state of the art Belize Medical Campus. Approximately 16 months to complete the Basic Sciences.
MOS: Upon completing Foundations of Medicine, eligible students continue their study in the United States in preparation for USMLE Step 1 prior to their matriculation through the clinical training portion of the program.
Clinical Sciences (Semesters MD6 – MD11) upon successfully completing the Basic Science Program (MD1 – MD5), eligible students enter clinical Clerkships/Rotations. Total of 72 weeks of required CORE and ELECTIVE clinical clerkships/rotations. All clinical training is conducted within contracted affiliated hospitals in the Belize, U.S., Nepal, Philippines and Malaysia.
Graduation and Degree Confirmation: Upon completion of all course requirements, a degree of Doctor of Medicine will be conferred by CCU. Eligible graduates may enter into postgraduate training programs.
